Deployment modes

Choose hosted, desktop or self-hosted DataMaker.

DataMaker runs in three places: the hosted service, the desktop application and your own infrastructure. The right one depends on who operates the service and where data processing needs to run. Desktop carries two workspace modes, so the table below has four rows.

ModeWorkspace and execution
CloudShared service at datamaker.automators.com, with centrally managed API and workers.
Desktop soloLocal workspace database and file storage, with local execution and per-install AI configuration.
Desktop teamShared central workspace with a local execution service for desktop workflows.
Self-hostedYour organization operates the API, app, worker and supporting services.

Desktop is an application with solo and team modes, not a separate documentation product. Switching modes does not automatically migrate a local workspace into a team workspace.

Start the appropriate guide

A local workspace does not imply all processing is offline. AI providers and connected systems can still receive requests. Check your configured provider and execution host when deciding where a workload runs.
