Deployment modes
Choose hosted, desktop or self-hosted DataMaker.
DataMaker runs in three places: the hosted service, the desktop application and your own infrastructure. The right one depends on who operates the service and where data processing needs to run. Desktop carries two workspace modes, so the table below has four rows.
| Mode | Workspace and execution |
|---|---|
| Cloud | Shared service at datamaker.automators.com, with centrally managed API and workers. |
| Desktop solo | Local workspace database and file storage, with local execution and per-install AI configuration. |
| Desktop team | Shared central workspace with a local execution service for desktop workflows. |
| Self-hosted | Your organization operates the API, app, worker and supporting services. |
Desktop is an application with solo and team modes, not a separate documentation product. Switching modes does not automatically migrate a local workspace into a team workspace.

A local workspace does not imply all processing is offline. AI providers and connected systems can still receive requests. Check your configured provider and execution host when deciding where a workload runs.
